This morning class whirred by -- I really enjoyed being there. This was the first time since I started polyphasic sleeping that have not struggled though the four hour class. I was able to focus and participate actively for the entire four hour duration. By the end I felt embarrassed because I thought I had contributed too much. After I started polyphasic sleeping, the four hour Chinese class became the bane of my existence. I had so much trouble focusing and staying awake. Of late though, my unwavering focus and energy has returned and maybe even increased from where it was when I was a "monophazer."

An unfortunate qualification is that I overslept last night and the night before. On Wednesday night I made it to my 3am nap without any problems. After waking I didn't think that I would have the strength an energy to make it until my 7am nap, so I decided to take a supplementary 20 minute nap at 5am. Unfortunately, I underestimated my ability to sub-counsciously fight off my alarms and go to bed. When I woke up it was 9:35am. Last night, I had much more energy then on Wednesday night. I made it to my 3am nap without any problems. Since I had a good amount of energy, I figured that I would wake up without a quarrel, so I set two alarms. Again, my sub-concious, just-woke-up persona thwarted the alarms with ease and returned to sleep not to wake up until 7:40am this morning.

Two consecutive nights of oversleeping would provoke the ire of most polyphasic sleepers, especially when they are in their adaption process. I was slightly disappointed in the oversleeping, but I do not think it will affect me much if at all. In fact, I consider periodic monophasic sleeping to be a potential addition to my complete polyphasic sleeping plan.

Since the two oversleeps, I have had absolutely no problem with my naps. The naps I had today were very restful. After I awoke, I felt refreshed and invigorated. In addition, only my 7am nap was completed on schedule. My 12:15pm nap should have been taken at 11am, and my 7:30pm nap should have been completed at 7pm. I feel great. Keep in mind that even with the two oversleeps I have still only slept about 10 hours in the last two days, so I don't think that I have wasted too much time. I already have the ability to move naps around or skip naps and make them up later. This phenomenon will only get easier as I become more and more comfortable with the strange intricacies of polyphasic sleeping.

I am now setting my iPhone alarm to go off five times (once each minute for 5 minutes). I also have an additional clock alarm that goes off during the sixth minute in case a burglar comes into my room while I am sleeping and steels my iPhone. I usually spring into action after the first 30 seconds or so of the Ipod's first alarm. I believe that this is due to the daunting reality that 6 minutes of alarms will go off if I do not wake up. Also, I think that would be too much of hassle and a mental challenge to turn all 6 alarms off and go to bed. I am thinking of adding additional alarm complexities though. This would only ensure that in my sub-conscious state I could not conquer my alarm system and return to bed to oversleep.

For now I think that the six alarms in two separate locations will suffice. Since transitioning to the Uberman Schedule I am really happy with the additional flexibility and the increased frequency of going to and from bed.

I am confident that I will succeed in fulfiling the scheduled nap segments tonight. I am very excited to see how I feel in the upcoming days. If I continue to feel as good as I do now then I will have to declare that I am fully adjusted an adapted. I better not get ahead of myself though.

NEXT
PREVIOUS
HOME
POLYPHASIC SLEEP
